This client supports automatic lookup of best route for connecting to game servers to achieve as low ping as possible. This is done by using Qwfwd proxies in the world to route traffic between the server and the client.
Prerequisities
- ezQuake 2.1 alpha 2009-10-19 (nightly) or newer
- Server Browser with "Asgaard" or "QuakeServers.net" sources marked. (Go to Multiplayer menu, "Sources" tab and select Asgaard or QuakeServers.net by pressing enter on given line)
sb_findroutes 1 - either type this into the console, or in Multiplayer menu on the Options tab enable "find routes" option
Usage
- Refresh the server browser. Either go to "Servers" tab and press [Space] or write
sb_refresh into the console
- Four phases will commence: updating sources, pinging servers, getting infos and building ping tree
- After the last phase is done, "Ping tree has been created" will be printed in the console and some server ping times (numbers in the 'png' column) will be written in yellow color in the server list. That means there was a better route found to given servers using some proxy.
- To connect to given server using the best possible route open its info window (press Enter) and then press [x] key. To check what route will be used press [i] key - route will get printed into the console.
- Alternatively you can use the
connectbr command instead of connect to always use the best available route while connecting.
Notes
Using this feature your cl_proxyaddr variable will get changed. That means, the behavior of standard connect will be affected, unless you manually clear the content of the cl_proxyaddr variable.
